Semester coming to an end

Well my friends in cyperspace, the summer semester is coming to an end. This will probably be my last posting. Although this was a helpful exercise, I doubt I'll be using it much. I prefer email as a way to communicate.
Throughout the semester I had many exercises to help me become more digitally versed. I have grow quite abit in my computer and web navigation skills. I realize that there is alot of info that can be accesed just by a click of the mouse. I also learned how to create a project on excel. I definetly have less anxiety and more confidence in myself with regards to computers and the internet. With that said, I don't understand why my anxiety score went up after the class. Must have been the state of mind I was in at the time of taking the test.
Farewell and keep trying, you'll get it eventually

websites

Well my friends in cyerspace, I'm learning a bit about navigation the net. I wanted to kill 2 birds with one stone and have one school assignment help with another assigment in a different class. Let me explain. I am working on developing a cirriculum and as part of on of the learning objectives I wanted the students to find and hand in a childhood immunization schedule. I wanted to give them a website to visit to retrieve this info. I thought of the Center of Disease Control. I tried a few different sites, cdc.org, cdc.edu then I googled Center of Disease Control. WALA there it was. It was easy the navigate. I now only could print out a schedule, I can order posters. Amazing, I think I getting there. To top it off , I can talk about the different websites I visited on discussion board. Til next week..............

Grant awarded for purchasing PDA for the nurses to use on the unit

We were blessed with the awarding of grant money to purchase PDA for our nurses to use on the units. These hand held personal digital assistant are small enough to carry in your pocket, and are as valuable as a computer. We have choosen the Palm TIM PDA. It has 312 MHz with 128 MB of memory. It is wireless, interfaces, bluetooth, infared, WiFi and much more. It is a bit pricey but with the continual change s and advances in technology we thought we should get the best for our best. Inservice to follow upon arrival of our new tools.

Need a little help from my friends

After getting together today with my friends @ Mercy College and brainstorming, we help each other conceptualize our assignment in the cirriculum process. We worked together to understand what is expected from us, and worked though the steps of the assignment. We did not do our whole assignment just talked through the steps, clarified misconceptions, reminder each other to remember key points the instructor pointed out, and much more. I made 2 new friends.

This brings me back to the traditional vrs online learning. I'm a traditionalist, in need that interaction. When reading : Tilley,D. (2004). Develpoing and Establishing Online Student Learning Communities. Comp Informs Nurs. 2006;24(3):144-149. @2006 Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. they pointed out that comrodary is key in a successful online group. The most successful groups were ones that supported each other and give positive feedback. Just thought I'd share that.

Now I'm moving on to AnnMarie's blog page to research PDA for our grant assignment. By the way this digitally challenged individual is coming along slowly, it's not easy. Takes me 2 to 3 times longer to do anything then my more experience counterparts. But I'm luck to have a little help from my friends. Thank You All

Davenport Article on PDA applications

http://eaa-knowledge.com/ojni/ni/8_3/davenport.htm

Hello.
I am logging in to say a few words about Davenports article on Personal digital assistants or PDA's. I don't have one so I can't give you a first hand account. I think that after reading this article a PDA might very well be useful professionally. I am still learning how to operate my state of the art cell phone so I am not sure I would want to add another gadget to my pocket.

Having a PDA at work would be useful but I am thinking there are drawbacks also. Currently we use computers that have flat screens in each of our patients rooms. They are handy because I can readily pull up patient records without leaving the bedside. Outside of the facility, I do not have access to the intranet the hospital uses. In her article, Davenport lists the many reasons why a nurse or nurse practitoner would want to have a PDA. Instant access to records, medical information, schedules, drug calculations, vital signs, etc. are a push button away! She advises nurses to do their homework and shop around. Its a major ticket item, kinda like buying a computer for you home. You want to make sure its the right make and model and it will serve your needs. The article gives step by step instructions telling you how to upload and download using a Palm OS system. (This is one system that is particularly geared toward healthcare users.)

Its alot of information to learn in one sitting. The more I use my computer, the more I am becoming familiar with the lingo. I can always refer to articles like this one to guide me though the process of logging on or setting up security passwords etc. The article was quite good in that it gave listings of useful web sites to help novices like myself. I have provided you with the link to Davenports article at the start of this blog. Log on, you never know what you might learn!
